Faculty/Staff
Jeffrey B. Goldberg, Academic Dean, College of Engineering & BAE Director
Dr. Jeff Goldberg is currently Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, College of Engineering, Director of the BA in Engineering program, and Associate Professor in Systems and Industrial Engineering at Arizona. He was employed at Vector Research Incorporated, Bell Laboratories, HealthAnalytics. He is currently the principal of Silver Oak Research which specializes in deployment planning for emergency vehicle systems and operations research modeling.
Dr. Goldberg received his Ph.D. from the Michigan, in IOE 1984, and the M. ENGR. and BS from Cornell in ORIE in 1980 and 1979 respectively. His research interests include designing and operating emergency vehicle systems, and using mathematical models to help solve decision problems. He was a recipient of the Shingo Prize for excellence in manufacturing (outstanding paper award, 1994), and spent a year at West Point as a visiting professor in the Department of Systems Engineering. In 1999 he was given the University of Arizona’s EL-Paso Natural Gas Foundation Faculty Achievement Award for outstanding teaching and research. His textbook The Design and Analysis of Lean Production Systems won the "Book of the Year Award" from the Institute for Industrial Engineering in 2003.
As Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, he is charged with managing recruiting, the academic programs, and placement for students in the College of Engineering. He has strong interests in increasing the retention rate of engineering students, improving the classroom experiences of students, and increasing the diversity of engineering students. The BA program is a natural extension of all three of these goals. It provides a broader program where students can design curricula that meet their needs (increase retention), where classes have relevance in their lives (improve classroom experience), and where all students are comfortable (increase diversity)

Celia started in March of 1993 in the Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering where the Bachelor of Arts in Engineering program is housed. Then in July of 1997, she was given the opportunity to coordinate a new interdisciplinary program, Biomedical Engineering. She enjoyed working with everyone at BME, which was housed at University Medical Center. Then in August of 1999 she returned to Systems and Industrial Engineering Department to coordinate the Master of Engineering Program (M.Eng) plus help with the Bachelor of Arts in Engineering and still work closely with SIE. In 2002 Celia was given another opportunity to help with a new undergraduate program, Engineering Management. This new program has excelled in the number of students. She enjoys helping coordinate different programs and has been at the University of Arizona for 15+ years. She enjoys working with both undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff from all of the departments in the College of Engineering and the university community.
Celia feels all of her students are like her kids, even graduate students who may be older than her. She enjoys helping students, co-workers, faculty with anything they may need. Her proudest moment was when she became a first time Mom in 2000. Her son is now 5+ and the light of her life. He keeps her on her toes and as he says, "I'm I your conscience", for which she replies, 'Yes'. Her office is full of pictures and art work her son makes for her. Celia and her whole family are avid Ice Cat Fans. For those who may not know, there is ice hockey in the desert of Arizona (UofA) and there season starts in October. On her time away from work, she enjoys reading, going on picnics to Mt. Lemmon and going to the movies.
