Today, systems are supposed to be designed so that they are better, faster and cheaper. The mantra for doing this seems to be the reuse of available components. This talk presents a process to help select and reuse existing components in new system designs. An important part of this process is identifying observable states

In the second part of this talk, we will discuss two dozen design principles or heuristics that will help make a component reusable in a new system. Not surprisingly, these same principles can help reduce redesign costs when requirements change.

This talk was designed for hardware, software and systems engineers, particularly those involved in early system design. This talk requires a CD ROM drive, PowerPoint and a computer projector. This talk takes one hour.
